How to Buy More Time

Everyone wants to have more time in their day. We have become a society of people who constantly complain about not having time.

We’re about halfway through the year! And this gets me thinking about how I can buy more time.

Yes, you read that correctly,

buy more time.

It’s totally possible!

When my alarm rang this morning at 7:13 am, I didn’t want to get up. I immediately thought to myself, “You didn’t get enough sleep, just turn your alarm off and go back to sleep.” But then I remembered something that I always ask myself, ” What do I want to win at?” I immediately jumped out of bed.

The number one excuse that I hear from people who I’m working with is that they don’t have enough time (and money). And honestly, that’s all an excuse. You have enough time and enough money right at this second. Allow me to explain…

Not having time is an illusion.

Don’t believe me? When was the last time you didn’t have time to clean your desk but had two hours to spare to look for those concert tickets that are buried somewhere under the mess on your desk? See, you have plenty of time! Or how about that time you were too busy to get your tires changed but had four hours to spare when your tire went flat on the freeway and you had to wait for a tow truck who had to drive you to a mechanic shop so you can get your tires changed. See, you have plenty of time! So the point is, you will always have time for things that you want to have time for.

Show time some respect.

If you’re constantly complaining that 24 hours in a day isn’t enough for anything, then maybe you need to show some respect to time. Are you someone that’s always late? Makes appointments then doesn’t keep them? Are you always making promises that you can’t keep? No wonder why you don’t have time. Would you be there for someone who was always lying to you? Someone who always stood you up?  I didn’t think so. So why would you think that you would have more time for things that matter most to you when you don’t show time the respect that it deserves? Start being on time. Start respecting other people’s time. Start being honest and only accepting appointments that you intend to keep.

When you respect time, time respects you back.

You always have the choice to choose what you do with your time.

Change your language!

I mean, you know that words have power, right? If you’re going around, wearing busy as a badge of honor, why would you have more time? Become aware of the words that you use and choose better ones. Instead of saying “I don’t have time to write that book,” switch that around to, “I don’t want to write that book.” Let’s be real, not having time is an excuse (as you already know from the first point in this post). If writing that book meant something to you, you would already be all over it. You would quit scrolling through your Instagram feed and would be sitting at your computer writing that book.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you will always have time for the things that you want to have time for. See…you can always buy more time! 😉

So, what do you have time for?

Putting it into action:

  1. Start taking note of how you speak about time. Watch the language that you use. I’m not asking you to make huge changes, I’m just asking you to become aware. Often times, just being more aware is enough to create change. Start by counting how many times you say things like, “I don’t have enough time.” You will be surprised at how often you say it.

  2. Take a look at your schedule. What are you spending time on? Your schedule says a lot about your priorities. The things that you are “busy” doing are the things that you’re telling the universe are your priorities. Do they align with what your actual priorities are? If no, this is your opportunity to change it. What can you take off your schedule so that you can add something that really matters to you?
